Hi there...so glad I stumbled across your blog. I enjoyed the podcast and your tips. Do you have archives or can you send me information on the topic of elimination problems regarding not using the litter box. I am going to try to start retraining my 10 yr old cat by keeping her in a large dog crate for approx 2 weeks. I can take her out to hold and pet but I cant put her on the ground. I am reading a book called how to wrangle a cat and this is a tip in there as well has from someone that is a behavior specialist at a shelter. Have spent over $400 on tests at the vet and nothing is coming up wrong so it is behavior. Any advice would be appreciated thanks !!

My son-in-law devised this same system several years ago but never posted it. Thanks for letting the world know about this fabulous idea.
I bought several large containers and just leave the lids off. I have 8 cats, several are very, very large, and they appreciate the openness that accommodates their height. The large size also helps me cut down the scooping frequency, particularly if I don't get around to scooping all of them daily.

I just found out that my boxer Abby has this and have been struggling with how to help her. I have a wood specialty friend that made me a chair for her. It is adjustable to any size dog, a hole for the tail to stick out, a whole for a dog food tray which tilts upwards or down. He has custom made this just for my Abby. I am listed on facebook and I have the picture on there and you can contact him at 563-593-0839 or woodspecialtiesmark@gmail.com His name is Mark Vilmont and he will make them just will have to pay for shipping. He is excellent at what he does, he built me this chair in 2 days.

Love this post. I don't think enough people realize how much cats hate small litter boxes. If they last as long as you say so, I'm making one for my cat!

Love all the comments! Thank you very helpful. I did have one idea myself but someone else has probably already thought of it...so my question is has anyone tried installing a Cat door on one of these homemade litter boxes. They look very finished and my cats are use to the privacy of the door. Thanks in advance if anyone has any suggestions!
