Boomer The Dog, 3 Ft. Tall & 7 Ft. Long
Can you imagine living with a dog that big? Yikes! He may be the world’s tallest living dog. Boomer can drink out of the kitchen faucet with all four feet on the ground. That is a large dog.
He’s a Landseer Newfoundland and lives on a farm in North Dakota. I’m guessing they don’t make doggy doors big enough for him.
Friday Fun: Snowball the Cockatoo Rocks Out
Snowball the cockatoo has some pretty fly moves. Hee-hee!
He’s is being cared for by the people at The Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service. They find forever-homes for unwanted, neglected, abused, and special needs birds.
Snowball piqued the interest of scientists who confirmed Snowball is actually dancing and adjusts his moves as the tempo of the song changes. Check out these other articles and scientific papers if you want to learn more.
DIY: Woven Dog Coat
Ruth Morrison, a weaver from Tulsa, shared this pattern on Interweave Press a few years ago. It’s originally from the Sept/Oct 2006 issue of Handwoven magazine. If you’re a weaver, check out the very thorough instructions for weaving and sewing a cute coat for your dog. The weave is called Bedford Cord—it’s ribbed which makes air pockets that help insulate your pup.
If you don’t weave, but like the fit of the coat, there is a pattern and instructions on how to sew the coat itself. Nifty!

The ASPCA has great tips on preparing for a new dog.
And don’t automatically go for the puppies. Here are 17 excellent reasons to adopt an adult dog. I love puppies–who doesn’t–but, I’m so glad we adopted an adult dog. Our dog Saffron was just as fun as a puppy, without all the extra chaos and destruction.
Maybe this is the month you save a life and enrich your own!
