Saudi Arabia’s Religious Police–the Muttaween–have banned the sale of pet dogs and cats. Apparently, the Muttaween see pet ownership as a western influence. Pet shop owners and veterinarians say the ban has not yet been enforced. Under the ban there is no indication that people who already have pets will have them confiscated.
