I’m sorry to say that another higher grade pet food is now included in the recall due to melamine contaminated rice protein concentrate. This time it’s Blue Buffalo recalling one production run of Spa Select Kitten Dry Food (Best Used By Mar. 07 08 B.) This rice protein concentrate also came from Wilbur-Ellis, who has still not publicly disclosed which companies also received possibly tainted rice protein. The FDA isn’t telling either. Wilbur-Ellis shipped to five pet food companies. This is two down, three to go.

Tests have shown that melamine was found in the corn gluten used in the pet food recalled in South Africa. (Previously covered.) It sounds like this is limited to South Africa. But, again the contaminated corn gluten was sourced from China.

Menu Foods has added another brand to the recall. (They call this “refining” their list.) This time it’s Natural Life Vegetarian Canned Dog Food. Not to be confused with Natural Balance.) They’ve also added production dates to eight varieties already recalled for Cats and for Dogs.

Finding it impossible to believe the F.D.A. and Menu Foods when they say there won’t be anymore recalls? Me too.

The pet food recall has reached as far as South Africa with Royal Canin South Africa and Hill’s Pet Nutrition’s South African subsidiary both recalling pet foods, but not before nineteen pets died. Sadly, two dogs in Puerto Rico have died from eating melamine contaminated dog treats.
