We Like: Cat Ladders!

Cat Ladders is one of my most favorite internet finds.  (Formally known as Katt-Trappa.) It’s a blog of cat ladders from around the world and combines a bunch of things I love into one big batch of niftiness.  It’s got cats, DIY projects, a window into the seemingly mundane daily life of people & their cats in different countries, a physical manifestation of the affect people have for their kitties, and there’s something in there too that hints of the secret life of cats.  Check out Cat Ladders!

Some are really tall!

Some make use of what’s handy.

Others are sculptural.

Some are for dogs or goats or chickens!
Some might be for gnomes & cats.

There’s mysterious…

Looong.

Minimalist.

Medical Marijuana Patch For Pets

A Seattle company, Medical Marijuana Delivery Systems has developed a transdermal marijuana patch called Tetracan for dogs, cats, & horses.  This could be great news for pain management in animals, especially cats since many pain medications are toxic to felines.

Unfortunately veterinarians may have difficulty prescribing the patch in the U.S. when it becomes available.  The Department of Justice is apparently raiding licensed marijuana dispensaries & growers per a memo released in June stating commercial operations could face federal charges even if medical marijuana is legal in their state. I’ve got to say, this DOJ memo has stupid written all over it.

Rez Dogs—A Documentary

Rez Dogs is a great documentary about a very complex issue.  Our dog, Saffron, was a stray on the Yakama Reservation in central Washington and because of her, I’ve tried to become more educated about Rez Dogs.  This documentary wasn’t easy to watch, but I think it’s important to know what’s going on and to try to understand the issues.  (via our good friend Holly & her 3 awesome Rez Dogs)

I think poverty is at the root of the problem and until that changes, Rez Dogs will have a hard life.  An understandable distrust of outsiders doesn’t help either.  Animal control services on reservation are often underfunded or non-existant.  Can you imagine running a shelter with $300 dollars worth of supplies per year?  This problem isn’t unique to Reservations either.  Many places with over-taxed, crumbling, or non-existant municipal infrastructures have problems with stray dogs—Russia, Iraq, Mexico, India, Bulgaria, etc.  Please click below to watch Rez Dogs.

Congratulations and thank you for entering & for your support!!

Don’t feel bad if you didn’t get to enter this giveaway, because I’m having another one for Facebook Fans.  I’ll be announcing the details soon.
