Pet Food Recall: Natural Balance

Natural Balance has received complaints about their Venison & Brown Rice Dog Food and their Venison & Green Pea Cat Food. Their site says not to feed these varieties to your pets. (via PetConnection.com)

Natural Balance is one of the brands I listed that I trust, so this is disturbing. I’m glad to see that they didn’t wait to find contaminants before they posted a warning, but it doesn’t look like they’ve made a press release.

Pet Food Recall: Banfield Pet Hospital Sees 30% Increase In Kidney Failure

Sadly, but not surprisingly, Banfield, The Pet Hospital, saw a 30% increase in cases of kidney failure from early December through early March, while the Veterinary Information Network estimates 5,000–10,000 pets have gotten sick and 1,000–2,000 have died.

Petconnection.com has 3,730 deaths reported by pet owners as of March 10th—these are self-reported and is not considered an official total yet.

Pet Food Recall: Nutro & Royal Canin Canadian, Menu Foods’ CFO Sells Stock

Menu Foods has added more pet food to the recall. The recall differs between Canada and the US and includes Nutro and Royal Canin Canada’s Medi-Cal Feline Dissolution.

As if the executives at Menu Foods could look any worse, it turns out Menu Foods’ CFO, Mark Wiens, sold almost half his stock less than three weeks before the recall was finally announced.
