This is incredible.  While out searching for bodies, rescuers found this dog scrambling over debris, including a partially submerged house that had been swept out to sea.  It’s thought the dog may have survived by scavenging in the house.

Super cool news from SXSW! Charlie Annenberg Weingarten, the Director of the Annenberg Foundation & founder of Explore.org has issued a challenge.  If Dog Bless You gets 100,000 fans on Facebook, Explore.org will donate $100,000 to National Disaster Search Dog Foundation.  If Dog Bless You hits 100,000 fans by 2:00am EST Sunday March 13 (that’s tonight!) Explore.org will double the donation to $200,000.  Six Canine Disaster Search Teams will arrive in Japan in about 3 hrs as part of a larger team.

Update: Baltic The Dog
Do you remember Baltic the dog? He was the poor pup rescued off an ice floe 15 miles out to sea about a year ago by the crew of the Polish research ship The Baltica. Â He’d been spotted 2 days earlier floating down the Vistula River, but firemen weren’t able to rescue him at the time.
Baltic has since been adopted by a member of the crew and he accompanies them on some of their trips to sea.  Storms still make him nervous, but otherwise he spends his time supervising the ship.

Do you remember the puppy Cookie found forgotten and in terrible shape in an animal shelter? Â Happy news! Â Cookie has been delivered from Georgia to his new home Maryland via a relay of volunteers. Â He’s doing so much better and has a happy life ahead of him.
