Felt sushi are perfect for kitties! With a couple of modifications, this tutorial for felt sushi will make some awesome cat toys that would be fun gifts for the holidays. One thing I’d change is instead of beads for the tobiko, use french knots with orange embroidery floss. They’ll still look good and will be safer. And don’t forget to add some good catnip!
Earth Day: 30-Day Green Cat Challenge
Earth Day is Thursday April 22nd—here’s a great way to kickstart the week. Last year, Holly Tse at Little Green Cat issued a 30-Day Green Cat Challenge. For 30 days, she looked at ways to give her cat a “green makeover” and she has some really good ideas.
A few of my favorites are:
- how to tell if a mom & pop company has been bought out
- an overview of natural pet odor removers
- DIY crinkly “wrestle sausage” cat toy
- how to dispose of expired pet medication
Holly also has a book, Make You Own Cat Toys: Saving The Planet One Cat Toy At A Time.
Corgi Says “No!” To iPad, Calls Apple Users “Sheep”
To be fair and balanced, here’s what dogs think about the iPad. Chloe the Corgi is not a fan of the iPad’s user interface. (via buzzfeed)
No Mouse, No Problem! Cat Loves iPad!
The new Apple iPad has gotten strong reactions from people—positive and negative. Some people criticize that Apple is too controlling, but other people praise the iPad’s utility and intuitive ease of use. I’m thinking Iggy the kitty makes a strong argument for utility and intuitive ease of use. Now I want one! (thanks Erik & Brooke)
Broken Umbrellas Upcycled Into Dog Raincoats
I love this! Taryn Zychal had the great idea to take sad, broken umbrellas and transform them into cute raincoats for dogs. She has an etsy shop where you can get a coat for your dog big or small. Kitties aren’t left out because she even makes cat toys from umbrella scraps. Taryn was a finalist for the prestigious Cooper Hewitt People’s Design Award. She was also asked to make a couple of her coats for Martha Stewart’s French Bulldogs, Francesca and Sharky. Nifty!
