Dog Saves Dog On Freeway

All of this was captured on security cameras in Chile.  First, one dog is struck by a car on a busy freeway.  Then another dog appears and begins to haul the injured dog to safety on the side of the road.  Amazing and kind of heartbreaking to see the dog’s persistence while no one stops to help.

There is an update on the dogs in Chile and you can read a translation of the news commentary in this post.

  1. WITH EVERYTHING GOING ON IN THIS WORLD, MAN KILLING MAN & DEATH AND DESTRUCTION, THE HUMAN RACE CAN LEARN FROM GOD’S FIRST CHOSEN. THE REASON I CALLED ALL OF THESE WONDER CREATURES GOD’S FIRST CHOSEN, HE ( IF YOU READ YOUR BIBLE ) CREATED THEM BEFORE HE CREATED MAN, IF EACH ONE OF US HAD THE COURAGE AND LOVE FOR OUR FAMILY & FRIENDS AS THIS DOG SHOWED FOR HIS BUDDY THEN THIS WORLD WOULD BE MUCH BRIGHTER , ALTHOUGH THERE ARE HEROS OUT THERE WHO EVERYDAY FACE PERILS TO DO JUST THIS SAME THING, TOO OFTEN DO WE SEE THE SAME THING THAT YOU SEE WHILE WATCHING THIS VIDEO, PEOPLE JUST PASSING BY. I KNOW I HAVE SEEN ODD LOOKS AT PEOPLE WHEN MY HUSBAND OR MYSELF STOP TO HELP AN ANIMAL OUT… BUT WE WERE TOLD ” WHATEVER YOU DO FOR SOMEONE YOU ALSO DO FOR ME.” I WANT TO BELIEVE HE MEANT FOR HIS FIRST CREATIONS TOO !! THIS IS JUST MY THOUGHTS MERRY CHRIST MAS

  2. Does anyone knows how to get in touch with the Chilean authorities to find out the fate of these dogs? Somebody needs to to find these dogs to care for them! I think the whole world wants to know!

  3. SO SAD…..

Homeless dog tries to rescue dog that was hit by car on a highway in Chile
SANTIAGO, Chile December 8, 2008 (AP) The Associated Press

Chileans have a new hero: an apparently homeless dog that pulled the body of another dog through traffic off a busy highway. A surveillance camera on a Santiago freeway captured images of a dog trotting past speeding cars to pull the lifeless body of the other canine, which had been run over by a vehicle, away from traffic and onto the median strip.

The scene was broadcast by Chilean television stations and then posted on Web sites such as YouTube. com, and hundreds of thousands of people had viewed versions of it by Monday.

Highway crews removed both the dead and live dogs from the median strip of the Vespucio Norte Highway shortly after the Dec. 4 incident. But the rescuer dog ran away.

Authorities say images of the rescue prompted some people to call and offer to adopt the dog, but neither highway workers nor a television crew could find they animal.

  4. I love dogs and there is a something to be said about this wonderful dog. I need to know what happened to the dog that rescued the other dog. If anyone knows please let us know. Mankind should take notice to what man’s best friend does, and maybe there would be less abuse and less homeless dogs.

  5. J.Downing, I agree 100% I would love to know if these dogs are ok. I would take them myself if that was at all possible. I saw the video a couple of months ago where a guy got hit in New York, he didn’t have a best friend. No one came out to save him and cars literally swerved around him and did not stop. America needs to take a lesson from this awesome little creature!! If anyone gets information on these little guys leave a post here!

  6. my heart melted when I seen this dog trying to save his buddy dogs love like we want and need this dog only wanted to save his friend , his friend that he ran with ,walked with and all they had was each other. I hope enough people see this and start to see what a dog can give us. Unconditional love

  7. Only dogs can be so kind and loving. It makes me so sad that the dogs were out there in the street to begin with, but I have to wonder why no one stopped to help. I wonder what happened to the 2nd dog. I will be crying about this for a long time.

  8. this video further proofs that dogs give unconditional love not only to human but also would risk its own life to save other dogs. it shows that even dog understand whats right and wrong, and what it means by reaching out to help. This is something that we should all be reminded of and learn from, that in this overly-selfish world driven by money and fame we need to also give and show others our generosity.

  9. Sometimes it is difficult to love man because people can be so unkind at times. This was truly inspiring. If only we could care for one another this way.

  10. I have been contacting Chilean officials and emailing anyone I think could help find the dog, but I’m afraid there are too many dogs and too much time has passed. The video was taken in March of this year and only released this month.

You might want to contact The Discovery Channel and suggest this as a feature. They have the money to pursue this as most of us don’t.

One final said note: I read a posting of someone who had seen an extended version of the video. He/She stated that the first dog was run over three times before our hero got ot it. Then this is said: “At the end you can see the worker carry the dead dog by the tail like a piece of trash and the hero (dog) following and looking up at it’s [sic] companion.”

    It breaks my heart.

  11. The one thing follow-up Associated Press article did NOT do is interview the worker who is shown at the end of the clip. They should have.

  12. I, like so many others were truly amazed at the selfless act of the ‘hero dog’. I’ve been trying to find an update and pray that someone has found this kind soul and given it a good home. With all the angles that video was filmed I wish the authorities would try to get the plate number and go after the person that hit the dog.

  13. And now this dog is being forgotten. As was reported in an AP article dated December 9, the Santiago highway department is giving up searching for the dog. The topper? The video was made WAAAAY back in March of this year and only released on December 4. Breaks my heart! There may never be an end to this story.

I have written to The Discovery Channel asking them to do a feature on this dog. They have much more money than I to do this. I hope they will listen — and do something quickly.

  14. Sorry to have repeated myself on this blog. There were some technical difficulties either on my computer or this website on Saturday and Sunday. I apologize for this.

  15. THE MORE I LEARN ABOUT HUMANS THE MORE I LOVE ANIMALS !!!

I must say that animals own a parapsychological power
that most of us don´t have. And above all, they are
owners of spiritual loyalty, that humans rarely show,
I mean a dog is loyal to people from birth until
death, but humans … Are we like that ? There are
only just a few exceptions … unfortunately.

  17. freaking humans. there is millions of cars passing by and no one fucking stops to help. fuck humans.

  18. Nature made all animals kind. Man is cheating teaching cheating in schools, especially schools of law, selling nurture against nature. Man is sold as mankind honoing man as manking to rule under his rule of lie as law instead of truth as law. Thus learned in the law is the devil who lies and relies on lies to believe that he is God.
    Thanks.

  19. Such a sad sight..think the first dog is dead when it was strucked the first time and ran over by a second vehicle. Honestly human are the worst animal of all!!

  20. so very sad that not one person tried to stop to help…
obviously they were thinking its not their problem… typical humans.

  21. This is amazing it shows no matter what people think of animals they prove to have more intelligence and love for there own kind. They help the blind, take out criminals and save lives so who are the real heros in the world.. man or animal?
