Friday Fun is early this week. And it’s for all of you who been in the heatwave this summer, which is pretty much everyone except the Pacific NW it seems.
Alaska Woman Punches Bear, Saves Dog
In Alaska, a black bear snatched up Fudge the dachshund, but before he could run off with the dog, Fudge’s owner punched the bear in the face. The bear ran off and Fudge wasn’t seriously injured. Biologists think bear encounters are up in Juneau because the berry crops this year are poor. Lucky dog!
Friday Fun: Corgi Drag
I am in love!
Dog Poop In The Air?
Man, Detroit can’t catch a break. Most of the headlines for this story read something like, “Dog Poop in Detroit Air!” It’s true, but it may not be unique. A study of winter air samples collected from Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, & Mayville, WI found fecal bacteria in Cleveland and Detroit. The most likely source being dog poop. Blech!! All the more reason to clean up after your dog!
The study conducted by scientists from University Colorado at Boulder highlights the fact we know very little about the diversity of bacteria in our air. The DNA of the bacteria found linked it to dog poop.
Medical Marijuana Patch For Pets
A Seattle company, Medical Marijuana Delivery Systems has developed a transdermal marijuana patch called Tetracan for dogs, cats, & horses. This could be great news for pain management in animals, especially cats since many pain medications are toxic to felines.
Unfortunately veterinarians may have difficulty prescribing the patch in the U.S. when it becomes available. The Department of Justice is apparently raiding licensed marijuana dispensaries & growers per a memo released in June stating commercial operations could face federal charges even if medical marijuana is legal in their state. I’ve got to say, this DOJ memo has stupid written all over it.
